A smaller slate this weekend still saw some incredible performances across the League. Deciding this award is never easy. After reviewing all the applicants, we settled on a standout two way player who put up a dominant performance in a huge game.
The Week Five Primo Lacrosse Outstanding Athlete is Newman Middie Eli Friend. In a monster game against Jesuit, he posted the following stat line:
5 Shots, 4 Goals, 2 Assists, 13 Groundballs, 7/9 on Faceoffs
From Head Coach Aaron Burns- "In Newman's first ever win against the Jesuit Blue Jays Thursday night, Sophomore Eli Friend was absolutely everywhere. He led the team with 4 goals, and contributed in every facet of the game adding 2 assists, battling for 13 groundballs and adding a much needed boost at the faceoff X going 7 and 2. Eli was the team's leader enroute to a tough win and gave a gutsy performance on both sides of the ball. His early second half goal gave Newman its first lead and they never trailed again thanks largely to #12's efforts on groundballs, clears, and defense."
For his performance, Eli will receive a custom LHSLL Outstanding Athlete Stick furnished by the League through our partnership with Primo Lacrosse.
